Sunstone Crystals from India
The mineral sunstone is also known as aventurine feldspar. The name heliolite from the Ancient Greek 'hḗlios' meaning 'sun' and 'líthos' meaning 'stone' is another name but is rarely used.
This feldspar mineral has a spangled appearance although the characteristic tends to be more prominent in the finest grade material.
The reddish orange colour of sunstone is caused by minute inclusions of the minerals goethite or hematite. Occasionally it can also be caused by copper. The inclusions are responsible for the optical phenomenon known as aventurescence. Once again this is mostly visible in the finest grade stones.
Man-made goldstone is often used to replicate sunstone.
Although polished, these grade B sunstone crystals have a slightly rougher texture. We also have grade A sunstone in our collection.
In crystal healing sunstone is used to help those who suffer with seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Carrying the energy of the sun it's said to help alleviate depression, boost low mood and encourage optimism.
Our sunstone crystals are classed as size medium. Weights and sizes vary slightly from piece to piece.
Empathic warriors are stones that may not be quite as perfect as we would like them to be. The late Judy Hall author of the Crystal Bible states crystals that are damaged or that become damaged whilst in our possession should not be thrown away.
