Sodalite for Healing or Decorative Purposes
Inky-blue coloured sodalite crystals with greyish-white coloured markings. These inclusions may be impurities of calcite, feldspar or possibly both.
We also have sodalite crystals with an an orange inclusion. This stone has recently acquired the trade name Sunset Sodalite but was previously known as orange sodalite.
Grade A blue sodalite which we also have as part of our collection is virtually inclusion free.
Sodalite which is named for its high sodium content is sometimes mistaken for lapis lazuli. Although the two materials are quite different, sodalite is one of several minerals that's present in lapis.
Despite being quite hard sodalite is brittle which can make cutting and polishing difficult.
Bancroft Ontario, Ice River British Columbia, Litchfield in Maine (USA) and Brazil have the world's largest commercial deposits. Stone can also be found in smaller quantities in Greenland, Russia, Montana and India.
These medium sized sodalite crystals have an exceptional polish. They're produced from material mined in Brazil. Size can vary slightly from piece to piece.
