Fine grade citrine from our collection of rocks and minerals. These larger sized crystals are natural citrine not heated amethyst.
Due to natural citrine being relatively rare many commercial grade stones are heated amethyst. When heated to in excess of 500°C which in mineral terms is not particularly hot, the stone's colour begins to change.
Whilst most people expect citrine to be distinctively yellow, the shade can vary quite significantly. The exact cause of the colour is still not known for certain. It's generally believed to be associated with impurities of aluminium and exposure to radiation. Iron may also be a contributing factor although many questions still remain unanswered.
These Zambian citrine crystals are beautifully translucent. They have a vitreous lustre which means they reflect light in a similar way to glass.
Weights and sizes vary slightly from piece to piece. They're classed as a large sized tumbled stone.
