Orange-Brown Coloured Goldstone Crystals
Goldstone is an interesting material sometimes mistaken for a natural stone. It's one of only a few man-made stones that we have in our collection.
Goldstone is also known as aventurine glass although aventurine and goldstone have little in common.
This man-made material is often used to imitate aventurine feldspar also known as sunstone.
Goldstone is produced from glass included with minute copper crystals. Although best known for its orange-brown colour, it can also be blue and very occasionally green.
Although the glass is sometimes slightly coloured, most of the colour comes from the inclusions of copper. The spangled or glittery effect that can be seen is often described as aventurescence.
When goldstone crystals are illuminated by a dimmed light they sparkle incessantly. Some feature more reflectance from the copper than others. This is because of the way goldstone is produced.
Tumbling goldstone is not easy because glass is fragile. It's therefore not unusual for stones to have minor chips. This can be seen in some of our photos. When orders are put together we try where possible not to use stones with significant damage. They can however be purchased at a reduced price.
Our goldstone crystals are a medium sized stone. Weights and sizes do vary slightly from piece to piece.
