Dumortierite Crystals Grade A Stones
Dumortierite is a natural mineral that occurs in metamorphic rocks rich in aluminium. The finest material often features a mass of long slender crystals embedded within the mineral quartz.
Commercial grade dumortierite is blue quartz heavily included with dumortierite.
These grade A crystals have a relatively even distribution of colour. We also have grade C dumortierite in our collection. They're a lower grade because various impurites cause additional colours and markings.
Dumortierite was first identified as a mineral in 1881. It was subsequently named after French palaeontologist Eugène Dumortier [1803-1873]. When newly discovered minerals are named after a person or a place it's quite common for the suffix 'ite' to be used.
Examples include charoite, labradorite, morganite and englishite to name just a few.
These grade A dumortierite crystals are size medium. Weights and sizes vary slightly from piece to piece.
