Beautiful silver topaz from our exciting collection of crystals rocks and minerals.
This variety of topaz which can only be found in Namibia comes primarily from Klein Spitzkoppe. The topaz and other minerals found on this relatively small isolated mountain which rises up from the flat desert plain are mined almost exclusively by local Damara people.
Each and one of these silver topaz tumbled stones is unique and beautiful in its own way. Silver topaz is a colourless variety of topaz that's often but not always included. The inclusions which can be gas, liquids or other minerals are the reason for the subtle change in colour that can be seen in some stones. Those that are lightly included or inclusion free tend to be colourless.
On Mohs scale of mineral hardness which measures the scratch resistance of one mineral against another, topaz grades 8 so it's relatively hard. In fact only the minerals corundum, chrysoberyl and diamond are harder. Despite its hardness topaz is brittle and can break easily along certain structural planes so stones need to be handled carefully.
Silver topaz is a unique and fascinating crystal that you'll love having as part of your collection.
