Sunstone Crystals from India Grade A

Sunstone is a variety of the mineral feldspar.  It's known for its reddish-orange metallic glitter.  This optical phenomenon is caused as light reflects off minute inclusions of hematite or goethite (ger~tite).  Both are iron oxide minerals.

Due to the positioning of the mineral inclusions the glitter effect known as aventurescence can only be seen from certain angles.

In the 1800's sunstone was expensive due to its rarity.  It's more affordable today because of new finds in several countries around the world.

Some of the finest sunstone gemstones come from Oregon in the United States.  This material known for its large crystals tends to be included with copper as opposed to hematite.  

Our polished sunstone crystals are grade A.  We also have grade B stones as part of our collection.

Weights and sizes of these medium sized stones varies slightly from piece to piece.
