Ruby in Zoisite Tumbled Stones (Tanzania)
Ruby zoisite is a relatively rare stone that's a combination of green zoisite and red corundum. Crystals of black hornblende may also be present. Gem grade red corundum is ruby.
These grade B ruby zoisite tumbled stones have a slightly rougher texture. Minute sparkling crystals can be seen as they catch the light.
Weights and sizes vary slightly from piece to piece but they're a medium sized stone. We also have grade A ruby zoisite tumbled stones in our collection. These have a richer deeper colour and finer polish. The downside is they're not as well included with red corundum.
Ruby zoisite is also known as ruby in zoisite. This is a more accurate description of what the stone is. Although used primarily for decorative purposes it can be difficult to work with because of the difference in hardness between the zoisite and corundum.
Stones are often confused for ruby in fuchsite (fook~site) which has a similar appearance but is not as rare. The vast majority comes from India whilst ruby zoisite comes almost exclusively from Tanzania.
These grade B ruby zoisite tumbled stones are size medium. Weights and sizes do vary slightly from piece to piece.
