Lapis Lazuli Tumbled Crystals
Lapis lazuli finest grade tumbled stones. Highly polished and with an unmistakable rich blue colour, these beautiful stones are exceptionally tactile and will definitely stand out in any collection of polished rocks and minerals. The material from which these tumbled stones were produced came from the Sar-e Sang mines in the Badakhshan Province of north eastern Afghanistan. The mines which are located high up on steep treaturious slopes in the Hindu-Kush Mountains have been mined for more than 6,500 years and continue to produce some of the world's finest lapis lazuli.
Lapis lazuli was a favourite of the Ancient Egyptians and the funerary mask of King Tutankhamun features lapis lazuli as well as white quartz, obsidian, turquoise, carnelian and coloured glass.
Although well known for its inclusions of pyrite, these golden specs are actually within the mineral lazurite which in addition to several other minerals make up this ancient stone. For this reason lapis lazuli cannot correctly be described as a mineral because it's not a mineral in its own right. Lazurite is also the cause of the stones distinctive blue colour.
Whilst lapis lazuli tumbled stones are widely used in crystal healing, this grade of stone is also popular with rock and mineral collectors around the world. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing but there's something magical and very special about it that's difficult to put into words. Millions of years in the making, this blue coloured metamorphic rock is as popular today as it always has been.
