Hematite is one of our most popular tumbled stones especially with younger mineral collectors because of its unque appearance. Surprisingly heavy, hematite is relatively hard but also brittle so stones must be handled carefully.
Hematite is an iron oxide mineral and primary ore of iron. This is the reason for the stone's weight and steely grey colour. The name which can also be spelt haematite (hee~matite) comes from the Greek word for blood because the streak is almost always red. Streak in mineralogy refers to the colour of a mineral in powdered form and can often be different to the exterior of the stone.
Hematite which is available in abundance is mined in some of the largest mines in the world. In some locations more than one hundred million tons of ore are mined each year.
When used for its healing properties hematite is said to benefit mental function including memory, recall and thinking capacity. It's particularly useful for analytical thinking and anything related to mathematics. Hematite is widely used for its grounding abilities and as an amulet for protection. It boosts self-esteem, dissolves negativity and prevents negative energies from entering the aura. As a result it restores peace and harmony to the body.
Hematite has always been used for disorders of the blood including low blood pressure and for improving iron intake to the body.
Without reflection from our studio lights these tumbled stones have a dark steely grey colour.
Weights and sizes do vary slightly from piece to piece but they're a medium sized tumbled stone.
Empathic warriors are stones which have at some point in time sustained some kind of damage, usually a chip or fracture. With rocks and minerals having evolved over millions of years we do not believe in throwing them away. These pieces are available to buy at a significantly reduced price. Empathic warriors are not always available. More information can be found in our article on empathic warrior crystals.
