Goldstone Tumbled Stones
Goldstone is a fascinating material that's sometimes mistaken for a natural mineral. Although synthetic, we include goldstone as part of our collection because it's a popular material particularly with younger rock and mineral collectors. Goldstone is occasionally referred to as aventurine glass although the mineral aventurine and goldstone have very little in common. This man-made material is often used to imitate aventurine feldspar also known as sunstone.
Goldstone is produced from a specific type of glass that's filled with specs of copper. Although best known as a reddish brown coloured material it can also be blue and very occasionally green. Although the glass may sometimes be slightly coloured, the colour of goldstone is mostly caused by the copper. The spangled or glittery effect is often referred to as aventurescence and although stones can sometimes initially appear to be rather uninteresting, with the reflection of light that soon changes.
Goldstone is often described as a semi precious stone which is not accurate because it's neither a stone or semi precious. It is however a fascinating man-made material that's great to use for decorative purposes. Many websites talk about the healing properties of goldstone but whatever your views on crystal healing, I don't believe it's possible for a man-made material to have any kind of natural energy let alone healing properties. If goldstone has healing properties then a marble or drinking glass may do so as well because like goldstone, both are produced from glass. It's true that goldstone contains copper which is a chemical element so any healing properties that it "may" have, could only come from this highly sought after metal.
When a small collection of goldstone tumbled stones are placed beneath a dimmed light they sparkle incessantly.
Some goldstone tumbled stones feature more copper than others because the way they're produced it's not possible to define how much copper is featured in each piece of glass. Furthermore tumbling goldstone is not easy because glass is fragile so it's not unusual for stones to have minor minor chips which can be seen in our second photo. When orders are put together we try to refrain as much as possible from using stones with larger or more significant chips however these pieces are available to buy at a reduced price should this not be something that bothers you.
Our goldstone tumbled stones are available in small, medium and large sizes. Exact weights and sizes do vary slightly from piece to piece. Like all tumbled stones in our collection these goldstone tumbled stones come in a colourful protective pouch.
