Highly polished chevron amethyst crystals from South Africa. Incredibly tactile grade A stones from our exciting collection of rocks and minerals.
Amethyst the purple variety of the mineral quartz often exhibits different shades of colour within the same crystal. The most extreme example of this characteristic can be seen in the variety known as chevron amethyst. The name of this stone came about because of its distinctive chevron or v-shaped patterns. In the UK the stone tends to be known as banded amethyst.
In its purest form quartz is colourless but when impurities are present the colour of crystals can change. The purple colour of amethyst is caused primarily by impurities of iron. Heat usually in the form of radiation is also needed for the transformation to take place.
The white sections in chevron amethyst are milky quartz. This greyish white colour is caused by microscopic impurities of fluids that became trapped in the crystal early in its formation. If it weren't for the impurities milky quartz would be clear quartz.
Our chevron amethyst crystals are a medium sized tumbled stone. Weights and sizes do vary from piece to piece so we have split sizing into small and medium.
Empathic warriors are stones which have at some point in time sustained some kind of damage, usually a chip or fracture. With rocks and minerals having evolved over millions of years we do not believe in throwing them away. These pieces are available to buy at a significantly reduced price. Empathic warriors are not always available. More information can be found in our article on empathic warrior crystals.
