Blue Agate Crystals
Blue Agate Crystals
Blue agate is often confused for blue lace agate but the two materials are not the same. With that said, if they were mixed up together it would be pretty difficult to tell one from the other. The main difference between the two is markings which are more prominent in blue lace agate. The banding in this distinctive stone often features intricate lacy patterns which is how the name blue lace agate came about. Although small amounts can be found around the world, the vast majority is mined in Namibia.
Agate is a translucent variety of the mineral chalcedony made up almost entirely of quartz. For this reason the name blue chalcedony is often used instead of blue agate.
Blue agate is a relatively common mineral and shades of colour and specific markings vary depending on where it was mined. The blue agate tumbled stones that we've chosen for our collection come from South Africa.
These fine grade blue agate crystals have a vitreous lustre which means they reflect light in a similar way to glass.
The wide variation in colour in agate is caused by trace impurities of other minerals. Although stones can be exceptionally colourful, agate often occurs in shades of black, white and grey. When used for lapidary purposes this material is often dyed which "apparently" makes it more appealing to the wider commercial market.
Weights and sizes of our blue agate crystals varies from piece to piece. Stones are available in small and medium sizes.
Empathic warrior crystals are stones which have at some point in time sustained some kind of damage, usually a chip or fracture. With rocks and minerals having evolved over millions of years we do not believe in throwing stones away because of minor damage so instead offer them for sale at a significantly reduced price. Empathic warrior crystals are not always available and should this be the case, a refund will be issued before remaining items in the order are processed. For more information read our article on empathic warrior crystals.
