Lapis lazuli pendant for ladies mounted in a hand crafted sterling silver setting. This distinctive blue coloured metamorphic rock has been used and enjoyed by man for around 5000 years. Highly sought after in Ancient Egypt, it's featured in the death mask of King Tutankhamun which is one of the world's best known artefacts. Much of the lapis lazuli mined for the Pharaohs is known to have come from Afghanistan and some of those same mines are still being worked today.Lapis lazuli is not a mineral in its own right because it's made up of several different minerals some of which include pyrite, white calcite and a large percentage of lazurite which is the main cause of its blue colour. This highly polished cabochon comes from rock mined in Afghanistan. The reason for this chunky lapis lazuli pendant being added to our collection of sale jewellery is because of a tiny chip on one side of the stone which can be felt more than it can be seen.Weight (grams) : 14.1Size (cms) : 3.2 x 2.1 x 1.8
