Chrysocolla Pendant Jewellery On Sale
Stunning chrysocolla pendant crafted in a setting of fine sterling silver. This highly polished gemstone exemplifies the reason why chrysocolla is so popular as a lapidary material and in particular as a gemstone despite the fact that when this pure, stones are very soft and fragile. The cyan blue colour is a perfect backdrop for the shades of green caused by the mineral malachite.
Despite its popularity as a gemstone chrysocolla can be extremely soft and grades just 2½ to 3½ on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. This scale which measures the scratch resistance of one natural mineral against the other ranges from one and ten with talc being at 1 and diamond at 10. Apart from the fact that cutting and polishing chrysocolla can be a challenge, it is prone to "crazing" which is a term used to describe a fine network of hairline cracks that can appear on the surface of certain gemstones. As well as chrysocolla, opals are also known for this naturally occurring anomaly.
The crazing in this chrysocolla cabochon can just about be seen when it catches the light at certain angles but really doesn't spoil the beauty of this magnificent piece. We have however decided to add it to our collection of jewellery on sale in the Bargain Basement. For someone who's looking for a magnificent gemstone pendant and who's not bothered by this minor imperfection, this piece will not disappoint. We do recommend however that it be kept covered whilst not being worn and be handled with care.
Chrysocolla often occurs with quartz which can make the stone considerably harder. Although the colours in the purer varieties are more desirable, stones are much softer hence not ideal for use as gemstones.
In the unlikely event that you should not be totally satisfied with this chrysocolla pendant it may be returned for a full refund (T&C's apply).
