Bargain Carnelian Pendant
Pretty carnelian pendant crafted by hand in a polished sterling silver setting. This piece is being offered for sale at a slightly reduced price because of a very minor imperfection in the way the setting has been crafted. Had it not been mentioned we're fairly certain it would not have even been noticed. Due to the amount of time and effort that goes into making each of our ladies pendants, instead of having those with minor imperfections re-made we prefer to add them to our collection of jewellery on sale in the Bargain Basement.
Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony which is part of the same group of minerals as agate, jasper and onyx. A popular lapidary material that's been widely used for thousands of years, its history can be traced as far back as Ancient Egypt where it was found in abundance in burial chambers. It's also believed to have been one of the twelve stones in the High Priests Breastplate which is a religious garment worn during biblical times.
Carnelian gemstones exhibit a vitreous lustre which is a reference to the way the surface of stone interacts with light. It's a mineral that's widely used in crystal healing and is also the birthstone for the month of August.
