Light Weight Angelite Gemstone Pendant
Angelite is a baby blue coloured gemstone that's a variety of the mineral anhydrate. Although it can be found in different colours and in several countries around the world, only the blue coloured material is known as angelite.
Anhydrate is a form of calcium sulphate which occurs naturally in both an anhydrous (without water) and hydrated (with water) form. The hydrated variety of is better known as gypsum which is the main ingredient of plaster and plaster of Paris. When mixed with water gypsum hardens because of the process of crystallisation. The name anhydrate comes from the Greek word anhydrous meaning without water.
Angelite is popular as a lapidary material and is often carved into figurines but in particular angels because in the metaphysical world, the stone is considered to be an angelic crystal which can help one communicate on a higher realm. The vast majority of angelite which is available for sale in the UK originates from Peru.
This light weight ladies pendant features a distinctive coloured cabochon mounted in an elegant sterling silver setting. The surface of the stone does have some marks which may be fine scratches but we believe they are in fact natural markings that it would not be possible to polish out. Although we're not certain it is the reason why this angelite pendant has been reduced.
