Purple Amethyst Quartz Pendant
A rich purple coloured amethyst pendant dramatically reduced due to a minor imperfection on the surface of the stone which can be seen in our second photo. Crafted entirely by hand in a fine sterling silver setting, this highly translucent crystal exhibits sensational colour. If you look carefully whilst holding the stone up towards bright light some v-shaped patterns can be seen. These formations are more commonly seen in chevron amethyst.
In our first photograph the pendant has been illuminated from behind to enable us to show off the true colour of the stone. No enhancements of any kind have been made to the shade or depth of colour.
The colour of amethyst which is the purple variety of the mineral quartz is caused by impurities of iron and manganese. It has been used as a gemstone for thousands of years and some of the world's finest crystals can be found in jewellery collections around the world. The British Crown Jewels includes an enormous amethyst mounted in the Royal Sceptre with the Cross.
As well as being one of the most popular of all gemstones, amethyst is also the birthstone for the month of February.
This tantalizing amethyst gemstone pendant is a great buy for someone who loves this variety of quartz and who's not overly bothered about a minor imperfection.
