Highly polished tiger iron gemstone pendant crafted in a hand-made sterling silver setting. As this stone catches the light at just the right angle it becomes beautifully chatoyant. Chatoyance is caused in tiger iron by the presence of the mineral tigers eye. Although tiger iron and tigers eye both share similar colours they are not the same stone. With that said tigers eye, red jasper and the mineral hematite are all present in tiger iron which formed more than two billion years ago. As deposits of quartz (tigers eye), jasper and hematite smashed together as tectonic plates moved to create the Australian continent, the minerals were squeezed together because of extreme pressure. The horizontal lines seen in tiger iron are layers of the compacted minerals.
This tiger iron pendant comes in a colourful gift pouch that will help protect the gemstone whilst also minimising any build up of tarnish on the sterling silver setting.
