Tigers Eye Pendant
Chatoyant Tiger Eye Pendant
Beautiful tigers eye pendant designed in a hand-made sterling silver setting. This carefully chosen cabochon which was cut from material sourced in South Africa is fascinatingly chatoyant on both sides and being highly polished means that it's also incredibly tactile. Chatoyance is an optical phenomenon seen in certain minerals but is best known in tiger eye and chrysoberyl. As this ladies pendant is gently moved around so that it catches the light at various angles the colour and markings in the stone seem to come alive.
Tiger eye also known as tigers eye is an old time favourite in the world of rocks and minerals and the largest deposits are in South Africa and Western Australia. A variety of the mineral quartz used primarily as a lapidary material, the brown coloured stones are easily recognised but few people are aware that black and red varieties can also be produced by heating the stone. This process mimics natural geological processes that take place over thousands of years and in many cases cause rocks and minerals to change colour. Any chatoyance that may be present is unaffected as the stone blackens but the optical phenomenon is lost by the time it turns red.
This light weight ladies tiger eye pendant makes an elegant piece of ladies jewellery that would suit being worn on a simple sterling silver chain. To protect the stone and prevent any build-up of tarnish on the sterling silver we recommended the pendant be covered or kept in the gift pouch that comes with it whenever it's stored away.
