Picasso marble also known as Picasso stone and Picasso jasper although the latter is not deemed to be geologically correct. Picasso marble is a type of metamorphic rock which occurs in a limited number of locations around the world. This distinctive gemstone is used primarily as a lapidary material and gemstones tend to be into cabochons. This piece which has an interesting "box cut" has been mounted in a fine sterling silver setting.
We have been led to believe that Picasso marble was named after the Italian artist Pablo Picasso because its markings were believed to have an abstract appearance however we have not been able to confirm conclusively whether this is genuinely factual.
This polished stone has a dull lustre and an incredibly smooth texture which makes it wonderfully tactile. It comes in a stylish gift pouch that will help protect the stone and minimise any build-up of tarnish on the sterling silver.
