Septarian nodule pendant crafted for Stone Mania in a timeless sterling silver setting. The name of this rock comes from the Latin word septum meaning a dividing partition between two tissues or cavities which is basically a geological description of what this material is. Formed from crystals of yellow calcite, the mineral aragonite and limestone, septarian nodules also known as concretions are popular with collectors but stones especially of this size are rarely seen in items of jewellery.
This highly polished cabochon makes an exceptional ladies pendant which although quite large is not particularly chunky.
There are some natural marks just below the surface of this stone which could possibly have been polished out but we didn't want to lose more of the stone than was necessary. For a piece of rock that dates back to the Cretaceous Period, this septarian nodule is in pretty good condition.
