Rhodonite is often confused for another pinkish red coloured stone called rhodochrosite but visually the two minerals are quite different. The only thing they really have in common is the name which comes from the Greek word 'rhodon' meaning rose in reference to the colour.
The mineral rhodonite is well known for being included with manganese oxide. These markings can vary in size from a tiny dot to the point where the stone is almost completely black.
To help minimse any build-up of tarnish on sterling silver and to protect gemstones from marks and scratches, we recommend jewellery be covered with a soft cloth whilst not being worn.
