Picture jasper is a variety of mudstone made up primarily of clay and silt sized particles that are far too small to be seen with the naked eye. Whilst mudstone doesn't sound like the kind of material you'd want to be using as a gemstone, shades of colour and the range of patterns in which stones can be found make it both unique and eye-catching. Cut as a cabochon the mineral takes on a high polish and is usually mounted on silver.
This finely cut earthy coloured gemstone sits in a hand-made, fine sterling silver setting. As with all of the pendants in our collection, it was crafted by one of a small team of artisans with whom we have been working for almost twenty years.
