When this translucent stone is illuminated the colours become even more spectacular. This pendant is being lit up from behind in our first photograph.
Rainbow fluorite is fragile which makes cutting and polishing quite difficult. It grades 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness so needs to be handled carefully. Fluorite can crack or fracture very easily. For this reason it's not unusual for stones to have minor nicks or fractures.
This piece has a minor indentation on the lower section of the stone. It can be seen in our second photograph. Due to our camera lense it looks larger than it actually is.
The colours in fluorite are sensitive to light. If exposed to sunlight for long periods of time they can fade.
