Leopardskin Jasper from Mexico
Leopardskin Jasper pendant crafted by hand in a simple sterling silver setting.
This variety of jasper was named for its similarity to the skin of the big cat by the same name.
Leopardskin jasper is a trade name for what is actually an orbicular jasper.
This colourful stone comes primarily from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. When polished its lustre can be vitreous which means the stone reflects light in a similar way to glass.
Although finely polished, this leopardskin jasper has a dull lustre so instead of reflecting light it absorbs it.
