Poppy jasper a variety of orbicular jasper features the minerals quartz and feldspar which crystallize to form orbicular or spherical shaped structures. This grey and white coloured gemstone is not used that often as a lapidary material and in fact grey gemstones are actually quite rare. One of the most popular characteristics for stones used in items of jewellery is colour which is the reason why many grey and white gemstones end up being dyed. Having said that a gemstone is not beautiful solely because of its colour and diamond is a perfect example.
Poppy jasper is well known for being a colourful gemstone particularly the variety known as owyhee jasper which comes from the Idaho/Oregon border in the USA but this grey and white variety is virtually unknown. We love using it in our collection of ladies pendants but it's not easy to find cabochons of this size.
This beautifully polished grey and white poppy jasper stone makes an exceptional pendant necklace that's sure to be enjoyed by those who prefer their jewellery on the large side.
Crafted for Stone Mania in a hand-made setting of fine sterling silver, the bale at the top is very slightly larger to enable the pendant to be worn if preferred, on a thicker style of chain.
