Unakite Colourful Necklace Pendant
Unakite necklace pendant featuring a lightly polished cabochon gemstone. Unakite is a type of granite discovered in the Unaka range of mountains in America. The fact that it's relatively hard and colourful makes it ideal for use as a lapidary material. This naturally occurring rock is made up of pink orthoclase, feldspar, green epidote and the mineral quartz although the latter is not always present.
This light weight necklace pendant was crafted for Stone Mania in a fine sterling silver setting. There are some indentations on the left side of the cabochon which can seen in our second photograph. These are not cracks or damage but part of the original rock and were not polished out when the cabochon was cut. Anomalies like this enable rocks and minerals that are cut as cabochons to retain some of their natural charm and it's these characteristics like this that make each piece unique.
