Sodalite Crystals Inky Blue Colour
Highly polished sodalite crystals with a deep inky blue colour. These stones are classed as grade A because they're virtually free from inclusions.
Within our collection we also have sodalite with greyish white inclusions and an orange coloured inclusion. The orange inclusion may be calcite, feldspar or could also be the result of staining. It may also have been caused by oxidation.
Sodalite which is named for its high sodium content is sometimes mistaken for lapis lazuli. Although the two materials are quite different, sodalite is one of several minerals present in lapis.
Despite being quite a hard stone sodalite is brittle which can make cutting and polishing difficult.
Bancroft Ontario, Ice River British Columbia, Litchfield in Maine (USA) and Brazil have the world's largest commercial deposits. Stone can also be found in smaller quantities in Greenland, Russia, Montana and India.
These rich blue coloured sodalite crystals have an exceptional polish which makes them incredibly tactile. They've been cut from material mined in Brazil.
