Large and highly polished rhodonite sphere from our exciting collection of rocks and minerals. This impressive piece is heavily included with manganese oxide which gives it a dramatic appearance.
The colour of rhodonite can vary from the lightest shade of pink to a deep and rich shade that's almost crimson. Inclusions of manganese oxide are common and can appear in the form of dendrites, fracture fillings or matrix. The markings can vary from a tiny spot to widespread coverage of the stone.
When used as a gemstone rhodonite tends to be cut as a cabochon and usually takes on a high polish. Fine grade transparent crystals are extremely rare and some of the finest come from Broken Hill, Yancowinna County in New South Wales. This location is one of the richest sources of gem grade rhodonite in the world.
This beautiful rhodonite sphere is being displayed on a polished hematite ring. These make elegant supports for spheres of most sizes. Although a relatively hard mineral hematite is brittle so must be handled carefully. The ring is not included but may be purchased separately.
