Sugilite is a rare natural mineral which comes predominantly from the Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa. This region is the largest manganese deposit in the world and many rare and beautiful minerals come from various mines in this area.
Any sugilite material is now extremely difficult to find but when fine grade stones become available they command incredible prices. Despite doing a significant amount of our buying in South Africa, we have not been able to find any sugilite worth buying for several years.
This rough slab of sugilite has light purple colour that sits on a matrix of bustamite and manganese. The back of the rock has white coloured crystals which sparkle beautifully as they catch the light.
