Mookaite is a variety of jasper that can only be found in one relatively small area in Western Australia.
Although widely known as mookaite the name has never been officially registered. The correct pronunciation should be mooka-ite. The suffix 'ite' is often used when naming minerals. Examples include hematite,sugilite, charoite and englishite to name just a few.
