Spectacular Labradorite Polished Stone

Large and chunky polished labradorite stone.  With the tiniest amount of light fascinating iridescence is immediately visible.  This stone is also very slightly translucent.

The bottom edge is a little rough in places and there's a two centimetre chip that can mainly be seen when it's upside down.  It can just about be seen in our third photo.

When we found this labradorite it was about to be cut down to make smaller gemstones.  We fell in love with it and weren't put off by the imperfections. 

Labradorite is a variety of feldspar.  The iridescence also known as labradorescence is caused as light reflects off crystals beneath the surface of the stone.  The colours that can be seen are the reflection of light.

Studio lights were used in all of our photos except the second one.  For that image the stone was positioned close to a sunny window.
