Agate Stones (large)
Large and Colourful Agate Crystals
Four colourful polished agate stones from our exciting collection of crystals rocks and minerals. Each piece was carefully chosen during one of our many trips to South Africa.
Agate has been used as a natural mineral for thousands of years and its history can be traced back to Ancient Egypt.
A translucent variety of the mineral chalcedony made up almost entirely of silicon dioxide (also known as quartz), agate often occurs in shades of black, white and grey but can also be exceptionally colourful as these four stones demonstrate. The colour and banding that's present is the result of trace impurities of other minerals. The quartz crystals in agate are colourless in their purest form but turn red or brown with the presence of iron, pink with manganese or dark green with chromium. Other geological factors including light and heat also play a part in defining colour which is the case with most rocks and minerals.
These large colourful stones make great gifts for mineral collectors of all ages and are also suitable for use in crystal healing. According to Judy Hall's Crystal Bible agate is excellent for restoring vitality, motivation and for stimulating creativity.
Each of these agates is being offered for sale individually. Photos plus size and weights can be found on the respective pages below this body of text.
