Orange River Quartz
Quartz Coloured by Hematite
Orange River quartz is a mineral not seen that often in Europe. Named after the river that runs through South Africa, its colour is caused by inclusions of hematite which sit just below the surface of the stone.
Starting in Lesotho and going on to form the border between South Africa and Namibia, the Orange River runs through the Northern Cape which is a mineral rich area of the country.
The spectacular colour of this quartz mineral makes it easy to identify and this impressive piece is full of terminated crystal points in a wide variety of different sizes. Being lustrous means that it interacts with light beautifully but sadly we have not been able to capture this in our photos.
A unique and colourful mineral but sadly it's the only piece of Orange River Quartz that we currently have available.
