Exceptionally Sparkly Malachite Mineral
Malachite is a mineral that we love having as part of our collection and because we do a significant amount of our buying in South Africa, there's never any shortage of it. This piece was a great find because its crystals sparkle incessantly as soon as it catches the tiniest amount of light. Although best seen under artificial light it still sparkles beautifully in natural daylight. Although we weren't able to capture this in our photographs it can be seen in the video clip on our Facebook page.
Malachite is a fragile mineral hence must be handled carefully and for this reason finding really nice rough pieces can sometimes be a challenge. On Mohs scale of mineral hardness malachite grades just 3½ to 4 yet that has never deterred manufacturers from using it as a lapidary material . In fact it's been used for carving and as a gemstone for thousands of years.
If you love rocks and minerals as much as we do this wonderfully sparkly piece of malachite certainly won't disappoint.
