Captivating Rocks and Minerals
Highly polished chrysocolla malachite mineral meticulously chosen by one of the team at Stone Mania.
The mineral chrysocolla is generally quite a soft which grades just 2½ to 3½ on Mohs scale of mineral hardness so it must be handled carefully. Often found in and around copper mines it's frequently associated with the minerals quartz, malachite, azurite and cuprite amongst others. When combined with quartz its hardness can improve significantly but as a general rule, it's best to try and avoid handling chrysocolla as much as possible.
Although reference to chrysocolla can be found in writings by the Ancient Greek philosopher Theophrastus, it's believed the name did not refer solely to the stone that we know today as chrysocolla but also to a number of other copper minerals including malachite.
