Three highly polished agate crystals boasting great colour and some distinctive inclusions. Each one has a vitreous lustre which means the surface of the stone interacts with light in a similar way to glass.
During the Middle Ages people wore agate in the belief it would cure insomnia and bring sweet dreams.
Agate is one of the best known varieties of the mineral chalcedony. It's a relatively tough stone with a fibrous structure whose layers can be translucent to opaque. When free from impurities colours tend to be in shades of white and grey but with the presence of other minerals it can be almost any colour at all. The colours and banding that can be seen in most agates are caused by caused by impurities of other minerals.
As with all of the crystals rocks and minerals in our collection, these colourful agates were carefully chosen during one of our many trips to South Africa.
These three colourful agate stones are being sold together as a set and come in a protective pouch.
