Sugilite is a rare mineral that comes primarily from South Africa from an area known as the Kalahari Manganese Field. Located in the Northern Cape Province, it's the largest land-based manganese deposit on Earth. Due to sugilite being in very short supply, finding nice quality material is not easy. In fact finding any sugilite at all has now become exceptionally difficult.
These gorgeous sugilite crystals are incredibly tactile, each piece boasts distinctive colour, unique markings and no two tumbled stones are the same. When used for its metaphysical properties sugilite is considered to be a major love stone that represents spiritual love and wisdom.
Although small amounts of this mineral can be found in a few countries around the world, the vast majority and finest grade material comes from South Africa.
Sugilite is often pronounced with a soft 'g' as in the word genius but it should actually be pronounced with a hard 'g' as in gun. This is because the name of the person after whom the mineral was named is pronounced in this way.
