Pyrite tumbled stones from our exciting collection of crystals rocks and minerals. This eye-catching stone is hugely popular with younger mineral collectors due to its similarity to gold.
Pyrite is a natural mineral with a brassy yellow colour and metallic lustre. Although its appearance is similar to gold, it's actually quite easy to tell one from the other. Not only is pyrite not as yellow but it's also lighter in weight. Although a fairly hard mineral it's brittle so will break very easily.
Gold is much harder but malleable which means it can be stretched or shaped without cracking or damage. Strike pyrite with something hard and it will shatter, do the same to gold and it will become flatter and flatter.
Pyrite is an iron sulphide mineral which means it's a chemical compound of iron and sulphur. The name comes from the Greek word ‘pyr’ meaning ‘fire’ because when struck with a hard stone or steel it produces a hot spark. Since antiquity pyrite has been used for lighting fires.
When used for its metaphysical properties the reflective face of pyrite links it to the sun. It's also considered to be an excellent shield to block negative energy. Pyrite can relieve anxiety and frustration and boost self-worth and confidence. It's also used to improve mental activity (memory and recall) and to increase energy particularly to overcome fatigue.
The pyrite tumbled stones from our collection are a medium sized stone but weights and sizes do vary slightly from piece to piece.
Empathic warriors are stones which have at some point in time sustained some kind of damage, usually a chip or fracture. With rocks and minerals having evolved over millions of years we do not believe in throwing them away. These pieces are available to buy at a significantly reduced price. Empathic warriors are not always available. More information can be found in our article on empathic warrior crystals.
