Colourful Carnelian Crystals
Wonderfully tactile carnelian crystals from South Africa, these four rough stones were carefully chosen for our collection by one of the team at Stone Mania.
Carnelian has been enjoyed as a natural mineral for thousands of years and its history as a gemstone can be traced back to Ancient Egypt. Different types of jewellery and many other artifacts were discovered in Ancient Egyptian tombs because the stone was believed to accompany the soul into the afterlife.
These crystals make great gifts for mineral collectors of all ages and are also suitable for use in crystal healing. According to Judy Hall's Crystal Bible carnelian is excellent for restoring vitality, motivation and for stimulating creativity.
Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony whose colour comes primarily from traces of the mineral hematite. It can often exhibit banding hence is sometimes also referred to as an agate. Although generally recognised as a reddish orange brown coloured stone the exact shade can vary quite significantly. More often than not stones are translucent with a vitreous lustre.
Carnelian which is sometimes also known as cornelian grades 6½ to 7 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness which means it's relatively hard. With that said, care should always be taken when handling rocks and minerals because many will crack or chip quite easily.
Each stone is being offered for sale individually and photos of each piece plus specific details can be found on the respective pages in the dropdown list.
