Blue Lace Agate Rough Stone
Blue lace agate from the Ysterputs mine, farm 254, Karasburg West Southern Namibia.
Sadly this mine is now closed and has been since about 2012.
This striking material is characterised by its blue and white wavy bands. Blue lace agate is a rare variety of the mineral chalcedony.
With the deposit in Namibia no longer being mined, most stones now come from Malawi and Zambia. Many argue the stone from Ysterputs is by far the best in terms of colour and finish once it has been polished.
Blue lace agate from Ysterputs is now highly sought after and extremely difficult to find. Our persistence finally paid off and we managed to find a small amount from one of our suppliers in South Africa.
The only material currently available is what's already in circulation.
The small number of pieces we currently have in our collection are really quite special. They have not been polished.
In the individual listings below, the first three rough blue lace agate stones are the same pieces as in the first three main photos. The second three are the same pieces as in photos 4, 5 and 6.
