Natural Blue Chalcedony Mineral
Free standing large and chunky blue chalcedony mineral from South Africa. This imposing piece has been lightly polished and is visibly translucent towards the top. It does have some minor damage around the edges but otherwise is in excellent condition. The colour has not been treated or enhanced which is worth mentioning because it's quite common for less colourful varieties of chalcedony especially those used for gemstones, to be dyed.
Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline variety of the mineral quartz which in its purest form tends to be white or grey, a subtle shade of blue or even brown. Stones often feature microscopic inclusions of other minerals and it's these which either enhance or change the colour of the stone completely.
Chalcedony has been known to man for thousands of years and was once used for weapons and tools. There are many different varieties of this mineral some of which include agate, onyx, flint, bloodstone, aventurine, carnelian and chrysoprase to name just a few.
A great piece of blue chalcedony that will fit perfectly into any collection of rocks and minerals.
