Superior grade larimar gemstone cut as a cabochon. The front of this stone is beautifully polished and exhibits a vitreous lustre meaning it reflects light in a similar way to glass. The back has been polished for smoothness so the lustre is dull. Rocks and minerals with a dull lustre absorb light instead of reflecting it.
Larimar which is the gemstone variety of the mineral blue pectolite can only be found in the Dominican Republic. This small country which is located on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and shares its border with Haiti, is the only place in the world where larimar has ever been found. Another factor which makes this striking stone so rare is that mineral reserves are rapidly becoming depleted and it's not known for certain exactly how much is left available to mine.
