Sunset Sodalite Tumbled Crystals
Royal blue sodalite crystals with colourful orange inclusions. Although originally known as orange sodalite this stone has recently acquired the trade name Sunset Sodalite.
Inclusions of feldspar are widely reported as being the cause of the colour. We have not seen any factual information to support that. The colour may come from inclusions of feldspar but could also be calcite or come from some form of staining or oxidation.
We also have sodalite crystals included with white calcite. Grade A sodalite tumbled stones are virtually inclusion free.
Sodalite was discovered in 1806 during the Napoleonic war. It was named for its high sodium content. Although quite a hard mineral it's also brittle which can make cutting and polishing difficult.
When used for its healing properties sodalite is a stone of truth. It instills confidence, a positive attitude and encourages rational thought. It opens the mind to new ideas and allows the release of unwanted patterns of behaviour.
