Amazonite Fine Grade Crystals

Amazonite also known as Amazon Stone is the blue green variety of microcline.  This mineral's colour comes primarily by lead.  Microcline is one of the most common of all feldspar minerals.  Only blue green varieties of microcline are known as amazonite.

In the past amazonite came mostly from Miyask in the Ilmen Mountains close to Chelyabinsk in Russia.  More recently it has been found in Colorado and a few other locations in the United States.  It can also be found in Madagascar.

Although named after the Amazon River in Brazil it's not actually found there.  It's believed amazonite was mixed up with another mineral found around the same time in that location.  That stone is believed to be nephrite jade. 

These amazonite crystals are size medium although size can vary from piece to piece.
