Blue Topaz Cocktail Ring
A gorgeous Sky Blue Topaz cocktail ring crafted entirely by hand in a fine sterling silver setting.
The gemstone features a concave cut which enhances brilliance and creates an illusion of depth.
It's created by carving long narrow curved facets into the stone. Although very effective it's not popular with cutters because a significant amount of the stone is lost.
Topaz is a difficult mineral to cut because although relatively hard it's also very fragile. It chips, fractures and splits easily which complicates the faceting process.
Sky Blue topaz is one of three colour variations that's produced. It's the lightest of the three shades. Although blue topaz does occur naturally it's exceptionally rare. The vast majority is produced by heating colourless topaz.
The design of this cocktail ring is quite chunky. The gemstone measures 1.6 x 1.1 centimetres. The measurement from the top of the stone to the lowest part of the sterling silver setting is 2.7 centimetres.
It's lightweight and having a wider band makes it very comfortable to wear.
