Lapis Lazuli from Afghanistan
Lapis lazuli pendant mounted in a hand-crafted sterling silver setting.
This distinctive blue stone has been used by man for at least 5000 years.
Highly sought after in ancient Egypt, it was used in the death mask of King Tutankhamun.
Much of the lapis lazuli mined for the Pharaohs is known to have come from Afghanistan. At least one of those mines is still being worked today.
This slightly chunkier lapis lazuli pendant has been reduced because of a tiny chip on one side of the stone. It can be felt more than it can be seen.
