Fine Ruby Gemstone Necklace
This fine ruby gemstone necklace features cut rubies from Sri Lanka. It has been finished with 18 carat white gold clasps.
We had several of these necklaces made for us some years ago in India. This piece as you can see has a kink in the wire.
This style of necklace is traditionally made using a fine cotton thread. We wanted to use something stronger because over time the sharp edges around the drilled hole can rub against the cotton and can cause it to break.
We therefore used a silicone thread instead.
The rubies are subtly graduated with the largest being two millimetres. Imagine how small the hole must be through a gemstone of this size. I mention that becuase each ruby was strung entirely by hand.
It was fascinating to watch the elderly craftsman who strung these necklaces for us. It's difficult enough to see each individual gemstone let alone the tiny drilled hole.
All of the necklaces were beautifully made but unfortunately this piece had a kink in the wire. It's therefore being offered for sale at less than half price.
When worn with a pendant the additional weight means the kink is not as noticable. The pendant is not included with this necklace.
Each faceted ruby sparkles incessantly as it reflects light.
