Leopardskin Jasper Cabochon Gemstone
Gem-grade leopardskin jasper cabochon with reddish-orange colour and distinctive markings. Both have a slightly faded appearance.
The top of the gemstone has been polished which gives it a vitreous lustre. It therefore reflects light in a similar way to glass.
The bottom has not been polished so the lustre is dull which means it absorbs light instead of reflecting it.
Most of the world's leopardskin jasper is mined, cut and polished in Mexico.
